Like with many other aspects of the home, its important to keep an eye on the condition of your plumbing pipes and fittings too. Here we look at four ways to know if you have problems with your pipes:

Leaking Pipes — One of the easiest ways to know if you have issues, is if you have a leaky pipe. If all the pipework was put in at the same time this could spell trouble ahead. This is not always the case though, as it could simply be one badly soldered joint. This is where you, or better still a qualified expert should have a good look at the pipework to see if this is the case.

Pipework Corrosion — This is quite a simple on to see in the UK at least. If using copper pipes, you will see that the pipes will be discolored if corrosion is present. If there is a lot of corrosion, you will see they turn a green colour — however this can also be the case if too much flux was used in the soldering process, and the plumber didn’t wipe it all off.

Discolored Water — This is quite a red flag in any property if you have discolored water coming out of the taps, and definitely needs attention. Even more so if this water is coming from s tap that is meant to be potable water! This is potentially very dangerous, and you should immediately contact a plumber.

Staining — If you can see stains on the ceilings underneath pipework (such as underneath the bathroom), then this can be a sure sign that you have leaks. Its also a good idea to check walls for staining too, as sometimes the pipework can be run within the walls or in boxes. For this type of issue, you would almost certainly require a plumber, unless of course you feel confident yourself and have the necessary skill to trace and repair such issues.

If you are in the UK you will not just need to worry about plumbing, as it could also be a central heating issue, and so you may well need a plumbing and heating engineer in London to come round and give you some advice too! One things for sure, these things are definitely best not left, as the repair bill could be huge if not attending to quickly!
